Our neighborhood is usually a fiasco during Halloween and yesterday was no different. I always get tons of candy but seem to run out at the end as I start giving handfuls out too early! We took Conrad trick or treating to about 6 houses, mostly our friends and with kids Conrad’s age. Here’s Conrad looking great in his tiger costume . . .
The other day Conrad, my mom and I took a trip to the pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect Halloween pumpkin! Here’s what we are wearing . . .
Last Monday was school pictures for Conrad and I had volunteered to help. I thought this would be perfect, I’d do a funny face and the photographer would capture the perfect photo. When Conrad’s class was walking up to the room I got a peek before he saw me. He was second in line and marching happily to get his picture taken. When he got in the room and saw me I said “hi baby” and immediately picked him up. Well I guess that really turned him into a baby because he flat out refused to sit for a photo and only wanted to sit in my lap. The photographer said that I needed to leave so that he would forget I was here. I reluctantly said ok and went outside to wait on a bench. Moments later another volunteer mom came to get me saying that my leaving made it worse and that C had a little meltdown. So I went back in and he sat in my lap but there was no way he was taking a photo. The plan was he would retake this past Wednesday with his other teacher and another boy who was not there as everyone else in his class took their photo great. Before Wednesday my husband and I built the photo day up, we promised Conrad could drive the car up and down the driveway in Daddy’s lap and we asked him to “show his teeth” as a way to practice his smiling. That Wednesday morning I asked him what he was going to do, he said “take pictures, show teeth.” And then I asked what he will get to do as a reward and he said “drive!” As a backup plan I took these photos the morning of even though I was pretty confident Conrad would take a photo or at least sit and perhaps frown for one. But alas he did not so here is what Conrad would have worn for his school photos . . .
Last Tuesday my good friend Natasha (check back tomorrow as she’ll be our Featured Mom!) when into labor at 10:30PM and dropped off her daughter, Sienna, with us on the way to the hospital. Sienna is Conrad’s very best friend and he just adores her! Usually the feeling is mutual for Sienna. Since Natasha and her husband Graydon don’t have family in Houston we happily agreed to take in Sienna if their baby girl # 2 arrived early as Natasha’s mom was flying in from Australia (Natasha’s Australian) that Saturday.
Poor Conrad was sleeping through his first official sleepover but was over the moon to have Sienna come wake him up the next morning! Over the two days of having Sienna with us I got a glimpse of what it would be like to have two children and a small glimpse of what it would be like to have twins! I have to say I was a bit unprepared! Sienna, is amazingly well behaved. She does what she’s asked and likes to help discipline and usually boss Conrad around. Obviously she’s going to be an amazing big sister! Conrad, while being so sweet, is a typical wild boy. At one point, during lunch, Sienna was sitting quietly eating at the play table while Conrad was doing laps around the play room! It was ridiculous! I should also mention he was extra amped up to have his BFF staying at his home. That Wednesday the 3 of us went to the hospital to meet Sienna’s baby sister, Sydney (perfectly Australian appropriate!) I was a little nervous about how I would manage this but decided Conrad would obviously go in the stroller while Sienna should walk with me. The hospital had valet which made things even easier. I was just so impressed with how well Sienna held my hand, walked right by me and didn’t even think about running off while making our way through the hospital! Because Conrad is on the smaller side, I still find myself carrying him around, thinking we get out of the house faster and it makes him be where I need him to be. But with Sienna you just say “come on” or “let’s do this” and she magically just does it!
Sienna stayed with us until Thursday night right before bedtime. She was an absolute joy and we had an amazing time but I was definitely extra worn out! And really it was just because I had two little people to tend to and Conrad was being extra high energy and extra sensitive. And no one was really napping their normal amount. There was a lot of tattling, “he hit me” and “she pushed me” going on which I hear is normal with multiple children. Interestingly when Sienna would come and tell me Conrad did something wrong, she was upset but it was more that he needed to get in trouble. When Sienna would do something to Conrad he was so upset and it seemed more about his feelings being hurt. Then she would apologize and he’d be extra nice to her like trying to give her, her water or baby doll. But Sienna wasn’t having it, she would get more annoyed with him, like get out of my face! Totally a typical woman! Plus I remember being younger having girlfriends over and they could only stay so long before we got sick of each other. My husband said he never had that problem when he was younger so it must be a girl thing! In any event those two days made me realize how sensitive my son really is. And like all moms I think my child is the most perfect, wonderful, precious little thing in the universe, but Conrad was definitely on my nerves that second day! Poor little angel!
Here is a fun little video of Sienna and Conrad being jumping monkeys right before bed. And sadly I realized I only managed to take phone photos of the both of them during their first sleepover. I guess I was distracted by having two children!

Conrad and I both survived his first week of school! His first day went really well. I walked him into class, he went over to the play kitchen area, I said “ok bye,” he said “ok bye,” I got a big hug and kissed, he told me he was making bacon and I left with both of us feeling great! The next day was a little harder. There was a mom hanging out with her son that didn’t want her to go which I think confused Conrad a bit. I had told him that mommies don’t go to school it’s just for his new friends. So when I left that day he was a little upset and teary eyed but when I picked him up seemed to have had a great day. When I spoke to one of the teachers she said it gets a little harder and then gets easier. She warned me that this week will be the hardest. Since we had off today we’ll also be a little off schedule so we’ll see how it goes this week. I’m also trying to schedule taking pictures together around our new school schedule. What I have been doing is reorganizing the house and getting rid of “stuff!” Here’s Conrad on his first official school day . . .
