It has been a crazy week and I don’t know if it’s just being back in this hot weather that’s making me sluggish or what, but I’m struggling to get things done! In any event here is the last post from our wonderful Carmel trip.

The boys were obsessed with the BagPiper at Spanish Bay. So much that we saw him twice during our trip and Conrad has constantly asked for him since being back. So we have been watching a lot of bagpiper videos on YouTube! The picture above is my absolute favorite from the trip! Owen had taught Conrad how to roll down hills and this is Conrad inaction while Owen is grooming the golf course sand trap below!

Here’s what they are wearing . . .

Linsay and her husband, Jeremy, travel a lot, with and without Owen. As our Featured Mom I asked her two relative travel questions:

Since you all travel with and without Owen often, what are your traveling with a toddler and/or baby tips for making the ordeal run smoothly?

Well, I think this changes with age ... right now at 2 my tips for traveling with a toddler are, try not to travel during their nap time, have plenty of new books/coloring books/ toys or tv shows available for them to watch, and plenty of snacks. I think this age is a very easy age to travel with.  They can now entertain themselves and it helps that they can ask for what they want, fewer frustrations all around.

With a younger baby, I would suggest traveling during nap time so they fall asleep during the plane ride, which worked well for Owen. It is harder to keep them occupied and they can’t stay still and focused long so it’s hard/ not really fair to expect them to stay in one place for an extended period of time.

And what is your advice for moms hesitant to leave the baby/kids at home and have a nice mommy and daddy alone vacation?

Go, go, go! Of course you will miss your little one, that is inevitable.  We probably took a trip much earlier than most.  Jeremy and I took our first trip when Owen was 3 months old to Chicago. But I also need to point out that I had my mother’s support, she came and stayed at our house with Owen while we were out of town and I had plenty of breast milk stored for him to be gone for a long weekend.  It was one of the best decisions but I cried intermittently the entire plane ride to Chicago looking at about 20 texted pictures over the course of 2 hours. My mom stopped sending me pictures of Owen and told me to enjoy my time alone. She cut me off and it worked, I had a wonderful time!  I pumped and dumped most of the trip, but that was fine, that is why I had milk stored at home, to allow me the freedom to have some time to myself.   It was a great trip for me to get some boundaries between being a mother and being a wife which I think is really important.

A million thanks to our dear friends Linsay and Owen for allowing us to spend a few days and capture these great pictures with them! And of course for being one of our featured moms!
